David Beckham has asked for thousands of footballs for his birthday.
The UNICEF ambassador has asked people to make his next birthday “the best ever” by donating £21 to the children’s body UNICEF so they can buy footballs for disadvantaged kids.
Beckham said: “I was given my first football when I was very young and it was the best present I ever had.
“Often kids have to play football with cans and discarded rubbish – or they have nothing at all and miss out totally.”
This time of year is known in showbiz circles as ‘awards season’ – with back-to-back BAFTA/Oscar/Grammy Awards all vying to hand out gongs to the same old celebrities, seemingly year after year.
